Derek J. King began his legal career with the Sacramento County Public
Defender's Office.  While still in law school, he represented juveniles during Sacramento County Juvenile Court detention hearings, assisted psychiatric patients placed on Conservatorship holds, and represented in-custody and out-of-custody clients during Sacramento Superior Court misdemeanor arraignments.

Mr. King later served as a Deputy District Attorney in Del Norte County where he prosecuted felony and misdemeanor juvenile cases.  He also prosecuted half of the active adult misdemeanor cases and prepared legal memoranda involving crimes committed within Pelican Bay State Prison.  As a prosecutor, Mr. King conducted over fifty juvenile contested hearings, and prepared, submitted, and regularly argued oppositions to motions to suppress evidence in Del Norte County Superior Court. He has won felony and misdemeanor convictions for offenses such as Robbery, Burglary, Theft, Resisting Arrest, Assault and Battery, Vandalism, Drug Use, Drug Possession, Drug Sales, and Driving Under the Influence.

In addition, Mr. King has researched and prepared Federal Court civil rights
memoranda for submission to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California, and has litigated construction, contract, fraud, and internet libel matters.

Now, he puts these skills to work for you.  Since opening his own solo law practice in January of 2009, he has handled a diverse body of criminal, juvenile, DUI, traffic, restraining order, and family law cases throughout the Greater Sacramento Area and Northern California.  His practice ranges from Modesto to Colusa, and from Woodland to the shores of Lake Tahoe. 

Mr. King is a 2005 graduate of McGeorge School of Law and has been a member of the California State Bar since 2006. He is also a proud veteran who served as a United States Army paratrooper with the Southern European Task Force, Vicenza, Italy.
